In a world that increasingly depends upon information technology to facilitate the transfer of important data between parties in every industry, it is shocking to learn that less than 10% of private medical practices utilize electronic medical records to track their patients’ health information. From its inception Personal Physicians of Connecticut, LLC (PPC) has utilized the latest available medical information technology as the backbone of its medical practice management system. This means that any patient in our practice can have immediate access to their entire health record should the need ever arise (i.e., in the event of a medical emergency).

An equally surprising fact in this modern era of medicine is the rarity with which most physicians in the United States offer e-mail as a means of communicating with their patients. It is impossible to imagine that any businessperson could possibly operate in today’s economic environment without the use of e-mail. However, it becomes easier to comprehend this fact when one recognizes that a typical insurance-based physician cares for thousands of patients and would therefore literally be overwhelmed if he or she provided this otherwise incredibly valuable service. Because of PPC’s limited patient membership, Drs. Olin and Slogoff have the luxury of offering patients e-mail communication for non-urgent medical issues.
